John Connell is the grandson of George C. Connell, the son of Horatio Pennock Connell, and the brother of Joseph Richards Connell.
John Connell was president of the Mount Moriah Cemetery Association for many years.

John Connell, Philadelphia County, was born in Philadelphia, April 6, 1874; he is a son of Horatio P. Connell, former member of the House of Representatives and Sheriff of Philadelphia, and grandson of George Connell, member of the Senate of PA, 1859-1871; is a descendant of John Connell, an influential citizen of National reputation, who presided at the first town meeting after the declaration of the war of 1812; educated in the public schools and the Hamilton School, from which he was graduated in 1893; was appointed assistant in the Library of Congress, Washington, D.C. in 1897; studied law in the Columbian and National Universities while holding above position and was admitted to the bar of the District of Columbia; is a member of the Philadelphia bar; elected to the House of Representatives in 1906; re-elected in November 1908.
